Left Nostril Breathing

Here is a breathing resource to reduce stress, regulate your nervous system, and strengthen your immune system.

1. Sit comfortably with a straight back

Close your eyes if you are comfortable to

2. Let all of the air out of your lungs

3. Gently block your right nostril with a finger or thumb

4. Inhale for a count of 4 - 10 seconds

5. Exhale for a count of 4 - 10 seconds

6. Cycle 10 or more times

We switch between breathing from our right or left nostril all day long.  If we are under stress, our sympathetic, or “Fight or Flight” nervous system will turn on and we will automatically start to breathe through our right nostril.  One way to reset your nervous system back to the “Rest and Relax” parasympathetic nervous system is to breathe through the left nostril for a few minutes.  If you are feeling too tired and would like to be reenergized, you can try breathing through the right nostril for a few minutes instead!
