Sun Salutation

With Poem

The sun salutation moves through a set of yoga poses as shown in the image. An accompanying poem which goes along with each of the poses makes the sun salutation more kid-friendly and fun. Use this in the morning or during a transitional period to get bodies ready to learn!

Each sentence of the poem, included below, corresponds with the appropriate yoga pose shown in the image. We begin with the top middle pose, and starting with the first line of the poem, "sun goes up", move into the next pose to the right and continue clockwise. Once practiced a few times, it is pretty easy to remember!

SunSalutation: Welcome

The Poem

Sun goes up,
reach the sky.
Sun goes down,
touch the ground.
Feet go back,
into plank.
Cobra goes up,
gives his thanks (hisssssss).
Back goes flat,
like a log.
Hips go back,
to downward dog.
Hop back up,
like a frog.
Rise again,
and here we end.
